Why 'for all hair types' hasn't always embraced us.

While undoubtedly an approach to appeal to a wider consumer base, the truth is that, much like our multifaceted identities, hair shouldn’t be made to conform to a ‘one-size-fits-all’ standard. 

Know-how for textured hair isn’t required to pass cosmetology boards. Research and development, as well as claims testing skew towards wavy and looser curl types, overlooking the unique needs of tighter textures. Beauty products marketed towards Black and Brown women have been linked to potential harm effects emphasizing a need for a more conscious, transparent approach.  

It’s why at Soft Rows we believe in hair needs over hair types. Moisture that won’t weigh hair down, repair, and versatile styling hold, are just a few needs we solve for through our proprietary formulas. 

Further, Soft Rows is cleanly formulated by Women of Color chemists who understand the intricacies of diverse hair textures. We partner with Women of Color licensed cosmetologists to put our products to the test, in salons. Lastly, Soft Rows emphasizes testing on tight textures, including braided hairstyles, resulting in effective products that prioritize, not tokenize, texture-rich hair.
