For me, I chose to be a straight hair natural because it is easier to maintain on daily basis.

Despite initial challenges, twists hold a special place in my heart, it was a start where I gained the freedom to express myself outwardly with my hair.

Phenotypically, I am Black, and that is how society sees me. Because of this, she made sure I spent time in spaces with Black women specifically, whether at hair salons, with my godmother, or with her close friends.

Black men have a knack for transforming mere functional items into contemporary crowns.

Being part of such a vibrant community at HU helped me understand that beauty isn't confined to one mold—it's diverse, multifaceted, and deeply personal.

Treating [my hair] with the reverence and care it deserves helped me do the same for myself.

Being in Black spaces is an integral part of my self-care. It feeds me in a powerful and unique way.

Curly hair is very common in South Asian culture however no one taught us how to care for it. It was also viewed as “untamed hair”.
