How to perfect the wash-and-go

I had the pleasure of partnering with Sarah of Luna y Sol Salon for my first ever wash n go featuring a few of our Soft Rows products. As someone who normally wears twists, twist outs and braid outs, it was completely new to try a wash and go where your curls are less stretched and elongated. I am building Soft Rows to empower expression in all its forms and that includes as is.

Here’s what I learned to perfect a wash n go.

  1. Start with a clean base - Depending on your hair habits and routine, starting with a clarifying shampoo or a hydrating shampoo is important for a hydrated, defined wash and go. Excess oils, product build up can interfere with the styling products needed

  2. Thoroughly saturate hair with water - water, water, water, and then…more water. Taking the time to thoroughly saturate and detangle your hair with water during the cleansing step and applying your styling product to soaking wet hair is key for defined, juicy, curls.

  3. Layer your styling products - we decided on a foam only wash and go as wanted to achieve light, fluffy curls but adding a gel can help create a cast, adding longevity to your wash and go.

  4. Fully Dry- some stylists say air dry is best but I do find that especially for tighter coils and curls especially when desiring longevity, creating a cast by way of non-direct heat (hooded hair dryer, portable hair dryer, or diffuser) is best.
